To unveil the launch of YSL’s Rouge Sur Mesure Device in Canada, our client, Middle Child, wanted to create an ultra-cool, French chic reveal for their guests. Guests entering Cry Baby Gallery, an art gallery on Dundas West, were stunned when the velvet curtains were pulled back to reveal the speakeasy. The dim and intimate space was covered in florals ranging in all shades of YSL’s lipstick offerings while different lines of YSL’s product offerings were displayed along the bar and the walls of shelving behind the bar.

The florals were definitely a highlight at this event! Narcissus & Echo created multiple amazing installations, with roses topping every mirror, bar top, and display shelf in the room. For the photo op, we wanted to create a romantic French vanity while paying respects to the sleek and cool girl aesthetics of YSL. The guests loved taking selfies in front of this amazing installation!

At the bar, cocktails were customized to celebrate the offerings of YSL’s beauty range. Offerings included Rouge Libre, a tequila, Pimm, and cranberry cocktail; Melon D’or, a fan favourite at Crybaby Gallery; and Rose Stiletto, a stunning and elegant take on a cosmopolitan. Servers from No Small Feast roamed the room, passing delicious bites and nibbles that were dotted with pink and red sauces on every dish.

To give an ode to the French aesthetics of the brand, Nadege and Daan Go Cake Labs filled the sweets table to match the finest viennoiserie. Gold-foiled macarons topped with the YSL logo were the clear winner! Other cake flavours included praline, pur noir, lemon meringue, and pecan tart. Guests were also surprised with a custom line drawing portrait, individually designed by It’s Okay Studio. An artist on-site painted the portraits with a lipstick shade chosen by each guest.

After the mix and mingle, everyone was invited back to the art gallery for the unveiling of the Sur Mesure Device. The new device is a custom lip colour creator, using either the Shade Palette, Shade Match, or a YSL Share Stylist to create a new colour! Guests played around with the four different ink cartridges and were sent home with samples of their custom-created lip colour.
