Our Favourite Tablescapes

At the heart of every remarkable event lies a beautifully curated tablescape. The importance of a well-set table cannot be overstated - it speaks volumes about the host’s care, adds an element of visual appeal, and plays a pivotal role in enhancing the overall atmosphere of the gathering. A gorgeous tablescape elevates the entire dining experience and fosters a sense of anticipation, turning an ordinary meal into a memorable occasion. Of the hundreds of tables that we at Mad Bash have set, many of them still make our hearts sigh, and we are going to share them with you today, along with the stories behind them.

A VIBRANT and energizing TABLE to CELEBRATE THE NEW YEAR IN STYLE

The Johnnie Walker x Angel Chen Lunar New Year event honoured Chinese culture, art and food. Drawing from Angel Chen’s artwork, which was featured on the Johnnie Walker bottles, the design was very saturated in colour, and few neutrals were used. Set to impress Toronto fashion influencers, the tables were as fierce as their fashion choices. Florals played a big part of the overall aesthetic, and because the place settings were only on one side of the tables (so that everyone could watch the fashion show in the middle of the room), we had plenty of space for the oversized centrepieces. We chose blue china plates, sleek gold flatware, and sparkling crystal stemware, and added mandarins, clementines and persimmons into the tablescape decor to symbolize good fortune. Our custom-designed gold-foil menus added shimmer to the unforgettable evening.

A MODERN and luxurious twist on a classic winter holiday tablescape

The tablescape for Sephora’s Holiday Media Preview was designed to give guests a comforting, nostalgic feeling, like being wrapped in a warm, soft, holiday cocoon. Shapes and textures were front of mind, from the custom table coverings designed to look like tufted velvet, to the luxurious green chargers, and the striped and bubble taper candles. Gold details like gold flatware, candle holders, and gold rimmed glassware, were of course classic choices for this holiday tablescape. On each place setting sat a beautifully wrapped gift, doubling as a place card, and inviting guests to their seat and evoking a childlike sense of wonder.

A DREAMY, PASTEL SUNSET TABLESCAPE

We designed this beautiful tablescape for the Knix Ambassadors Summit and worked within the brand’s delicious colour palette. The feel of the event was inspiring, feminine, fresh and on trend, and these tablescapes definitely checked those boxes! We chose gorgeous raw silk table linens in lilac, and light coral linen napkins with gold semicircle napkin rings. Our custom-designed pill-shaped laminated place mats were not only a branding opportunity, but also doubled as place cards. Pink and peach taper candles lined the tables in black and gold taper candle holders. Finally, sleek and modern black cutlery and elegant gold-rimmed glassware completed this fun and polished look.

A mystical, moody TABLE TO INSPIRE INFLUENCERS

The guests of this cosmically-inspired dinner for Viktor & Rolf were Toronto’s edgiest beauty influencers, so it was important to create a jaw-dropping tablescape that was impossible not to photograph. Luxurious blue velvet tablecloths, ornate gold chargers and candleholders, black stem and flatware, and blue goblets created a dark and mystical tablescape like something out of a sorceresses’ dining room. We scattered the tables with the brand’s beautiful perfume bottles, pieces of amethyst, and branded tarot cards (including on the menus), and the fierce florals in shades of blues and violets made this tablescape truly otherworldly. A BOLD and electric jungle wedding

Hilary and Dan’s electric jungle wedding was all about big, beautiful florals. They played a big factor in the overall aesthetic and filled the tables with lush, elongated arrangements full of textural greens and pops of purple and pink hues. The combination of geometric chargers with lime green napkins expressed the couple’s fun-loving personality and we had fun repeating this theme when we flipped the room after dinner and transformed it into a club!

A QUIRKY AND ECLECTIC TABLESCAPE

This bold and unusual tablescape was designed for an editorial photoshoot and came straight from the Mad Bash imagination. We come across so much inspiration in our day-to-day design life, that sometimes it’s nice to have a chance to be our own client and design something just for us. Like these show-stopping tablecloths that we designed - we think they really express our brand’s personality. Paired with deliciously quirky details like the stoneware candelabra, the punchy centrepieces with their twisted and statuesque branches, and the die-cut menus with circular cut-outs for the napkins, this tablescape is one that we wish we had for our own dining room table!

A Scandinavian-inspired WEDDING TABLESCAPE

Lindsay and Jeff took a Scandanavian approach to design and wanted the space to feel minimalist, clean, and stylish. We used modern tabletop upgrades like eggshell plateware, and paired them with edgy black flatware, creating a look elevated from your typical restaurant tablewares. These were then paired with a punchy tortoiseshell goblet from for a vibrant addition to the tables. We kept tables bare, revealing their natural beauty, and instead asked our designer at It’s Okay Studio to create custom speckle and brushstroke placemats to act as an anchor for all the other details. We kept florals subtle, calming, and consistent for a beautiful, low-key tablescape. If you’d like to read more about this wedding, visit the blog here.

A ROMANTIC and POETIC WEDDING TABLESCAPE

Kayley and Tom wanted their wedding decor to be simple and elegant. They chose a classic colour palette in red, burgundy and bronze, which lent perfectly to a deep and dramatic, yet still pared back, tablescape. Clear cut-glass chargers and clear glass vases kept things feeling clean, and the smoked glassware and gold flatware brought stream-lined warmth. Single-stems florals in dark shades punched above their weight and brought the drama, and dusty rose napkins gave a romantic feel to the table.

A colourful and playful barn wedding

We designed Rachel and Daniel’s wedding to be a contemporary and colourful take on modern farmhouse, pairing vibrant pops of colour with different textures and neutral elements. For the couple, colour was a really important way to incorporate their personal style. They wanted splashes of rich Mediterranean hues dotted into every aspect of the design and we did just that! Beaded chargers, vintage goblets and mismatched terracotta vases matched the barn venue, and we decorated with pieces of fruit to give an abundant appearance to the tables. The florals had a colourful, mismatched look, and we designed paper goods with retro inspired fonts and bold colours. If you’d like to see more from this wedding, we have a whole blog about it here!

aN EARTHY AND WHIMSICAL wedding

Emily and Myles’s wedding was cool, casual, and earthy, just like them. We used a neutral colour palette with blush, taupe, terracotta and mustard, and added whimsical details like giant puffy florals, homemade table lamps, and handcrafted placecards. A Rustic, warm and ROMANTIC tablescape

Erica and Matthew wanted their restaurant wedding to be romantic and relaxing. They liked rustic materials like wood, brick, and metal, so we kept the in-house wooden tables bare and designed our own warm taupe placemats. We chose smoked glassware and tealight holders, and filled stoneware vases with dried florals, camomile, and roses. We also decorated the table with loose sprigs of greenery. We nested the menu in a simple charcoal napkin pocket fold. It’s not hard to guess from the warm and casual aesthetic that this wedding took place in the fall!
